So, Why Wool?

Temperature Regulation

Temperature Regulation

Keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer.

Wool naturally absorbs and releases moisture while regulating body temperature, keeping you dry and comfortable throughout the night—warm when it's cold and cool when it's warm for an ideal sleeping environment.

Moisture Wicking

Moisture Wicking

Absorbs moisture and keeps you dry all night.

Wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp, keeping you comfortable and dry throughout the night.

Hypoallergenic

Hypoallergenic

Naturally resistant to dust mites and allergens.

Wool's natural properties make it resistant to dust mites, mold, and mildew, creating a healthier sleep environment for allergy sufferers.

Durable & Long-lasting

Durable & Long-lasting

Maintains quality and comfort for years.

Wool fibers are incredibly resilient and can bend thousands of times without breaking, ensuring your bedding lasts for many years.

Eco-Friendly

Eco-Friendly

100% natural, renewable, and biodegradable.

Wool is a sustainable choice, being completely renewable, biodegradable, and requiring minimal processing compared to synthetic alternatives.

Self Cleaning

Self Cleaning

Never worry about cleaning your bedding.

Wool's natural lanolin makes it self-cleaning, resisting odors and bacteria so your bedding stays fresher longer with less washing.

Fire Resistant

Fire Resistant

Naturally flame retardant for safety.

Wool is naturally fire-resistant with a high combustion point, helping contain flames without producing burning droplets, making it one of the safest bedding materials available.

Pain Relief

Pain Relief

Helps ease joint pain and inflammation.

Wool naturally regulates temperature and resists dust mites, creating a stable, hypoallergenic sleep environment that helps reduce inflammation and joint pain for those with arthritis or autoimmune conditions.

Shape Retention

Shape Retention

Natural elasticity keeps wool bedding looking fresh and smooth without constant fluffing.

Wool's natural elasticity allows it to bounce back after being crushed or stretched, maintaining its original shape without constant fluffing or adjusting for bedding that always looks and feels fresh.

Lightweight

Lightweight

Provides warmth without heavy weight.

Wool provides excellent insulation without the bulk, giving you warmth and comfort without feeling weighed down.

Your trust matters to us. These certifications prove that what we promise is what you get - premium quality, ethically sourced, and rigorously tested. No compromises.

Ethically Sourced

On the island, the Texeler sheep graze freely in open pastures, living the life nature designed for them.

Unlike other breeds that often endure painful mulesing procedures, Texeler sheep are never subjected to mutilation or harmful practices.

Handled with care and respect throughout their lives, they provide a completely renewable resource that benefits the animals, the island ecosystem, and our climate - sustainable luxury with genuine integrity.

Crafted with Care, Built to Last

Every comforter is touched by multiple skilled craftspeople throughout production - from those who prepare the wool to the artisans who operate the unique needling process, to the quality inspectors who ensure perfection.

This isn't factory automation; it's real people using traditional techniques and generations of knowledge to create something that lasts. The human touch makes all the difference.

Truly Local: From Our Fields to Your Bed

Everything happens here on our small island - the sheep graze our pastures, the wool is processed in Texeler's local facility, and the skilled craftspeople who make each piece of bedding call Texel home.

It's a complete island story, from pasture to production, creating authentic connections between land, community, and craft.

Full-Spectrum Climate, Full-Spectrum Performance

Texel's maritime climate delivers the complete package: winter temperatures down to -5°C, summer highs reaching 35°C, constant humidity from sea air, and dramatic temperature swings.

the Texeler sheep experience every condition, forcing their wool to develop dual capabilities - winter insulation and summer breathability in the same fiber.

Scientific studies show this climate diversity produces wool with optimal crimp patterns for air circulation, balanced lanolin for moisture control, and fiber elasticity that adapts to temperature changes.

It's not just hardy wool - it's smart wool, naturally designed for every season because the sheep live every season.

Heritage

The Texeler sheep have grazed this windswept island since the 1800s, when the sheep farmers crossed native stock with English breeds to create a sheep renowned for superior wool quality.

This heritage became Texeler's foundation in 1984, when local entrepreneur Dick Graaf took over a traditional craft from an aging islander who made wool bedding by hand for diabetes and rhematoid patients.

Starting with bathtub-washed wool and homemade carding equipment, Texeler grew from humble beginnings to their current modern facility - but the essence remains pure. The same breed of sheep, the same island, the same commitment to natural quality.

Now in our fifth decade, we combine generations of island expertise with precision equipment, honoring both the centuries-old Texel breed and the craft tradition Dick Graaf preserved.

FAQ's

I can get bedding at IKEA for way cheaper. Why choose this?

You absolutely can. And if budget is tight, we get it.

But here's what you won't get: bedding your grandkids might inherit, natural wool that adapts to every season, materials that gets better with age not worse, and sleep so good you'll wonder how you ever settled for synthetic.

IKEA sells disposable bedding. We offer the last comforter you'll ever buy. Different products, different purposes.

How do I wash this - can it go in the machine?

Not for most of our products - and here's why: the wool is carefully cleaned before it's processed into bedding, preserving the natural lanolin (wool fat) that gives you all those incredible benefits we're so passionate about. Machine washing strips that away.

Instead, just spot-clean when needed or air it out monthly.

That said: if you have messy kids or want the convenience of machine washing, our Wonderwool Comforter is specially treated to be machine-washable without losing its benefits!
